The last thing you want to do is overpay or buy a fitness tracker or GPS watch that doesn’t fit your needs. Keep these three things in mind when shopping for your next device.
Built-In Heart Rate Monitor
We recommend buying a fitness tracker/activity tracker that has a built-in heart rate sensor. This will give you a much more accurate picture of your calories burned all day and during workouts. It will also give you more insight into your sleep analytics. You can almost always find a reliable fitness tracker or GPS watch with a built-in HRM on sale these days so unless you are really only interested in basic metrics like steps, it’s time to step up and get one with a built-in heart rate sensor.
Stick to the Prominent Brands
If you are looking for a new fitness device, we recommend going with one of the prominent brands – Fitbit, Garmin, Apple, Samsung, Misfit, etc. These brands will provide much better hardware and software than those cheap off-the-shelf devices you see at Walmart. Although those devices are tempting due to price, they almost always end up as major disappointments leaving a sour taste about fitness/working out in your mouth.
Know What Features You Need / Want
Don’t get too caught up in what the high-end devices can do. Know exactly what features you need and find the device that will provide exactly that. You will end up saving money by not reaching for a device that offers features you would never use anyways.
