Amazon recently announced slight updates to its Fire tablet lineup and also added a Kids Edition of its Fire HD 8 tablet. Why is this a big deal? It really isn’t, but it does affect their tablet lineup and we like blogging so let’s get to it.
New Fire 7
Amazon has a new Fire 7, which will now be thinner and lighter, but will still retail for $49.99 — see on Amazon. It will also have an improved 7” IPS display with higher contrast and sharper text. Battery life is expected to be around 8 hours of mixed use. The Fire 7 will also come with 8GB of internal storage, which can be expanded up to 256GB if you want. The last major update is that the Fire 7 comes standard with Alexa, Amazon’s voice control assistant.
New Fire HD 8
As far as the Fire HD 8 goes, Amazon has announced that it is lowering the price of the new Fire HD 8 from $89.99 to $79.99 — here it is on Amazon. Similar to the new Fire 7, the HD 8 will come standard with Alexa. There are a few other under-the-hood changes such as dual-band Wi-Fi support. It will also come with up to 12 hours of battery life, an 8″ HD display (obviously), a 1.3 GHz quad-core processor, and 1.5 GB of RAM. Amazon makes a 16GB and 32GB model of this tablet. The price point is perfect with the new Fire HD 8. We think this will be a very popular tablet.
Kids Edition – Fire HD 8
Now in regards to the new Kids Edition of the Fire HD 8, the retail price is $129.99, but there’s clearly some wiggle room for that to come down during the holidays. You can see it here on Amazon. Pricing does seam odd compared to the standard Fire HD 8. Along with the tablet itself, the Kids Edition Fire HD 8 comes with one year free of FreeTime Unlimited (unlimited access to kid-friendly games, books, movies, TV shows, and educational apps) and a free 2-year “worry-free” warranty. Additionally, the Kids Fire HD 8 will come with a Kid-Proof Case (which you probably already knew about), 32 GB internal storage, and up to 12 hours of mixed-use battery life. It too has expandable storage up to 256 GB.
