The ASICS Gel Kayano 24 are one of the best running shoes 2017 and will probably be on the list in 2018 as well. While they are stability runners (i.e. mostly for people that over-pronate) the correction is not so drastic that neutral runners should overlook them. In any case, these are among the best ASICS mens shoes out there, although to be fair, they are only a marginal improvement over the Kayano 23 and Kayano 22. We said this in a blog post the day the Kayano 24s were announced. Regardless, these are really comfortable, have a tremendous cushioning system (good bounce back and impact absorption), and sport an improved upper that’s flexible and breathable. The upper on the Kayanos seems to get better every year. The other change is the heel counter—it’s now more low profile and gives the shoe a tapered shape. This doesn’t provide any real benefit, but it makes the shoes look a lot better. Bottom line with the Kayano 24s is they’re the latest and greatest from ASICS, but they’re simply not much better than the 23s. Between the 24s and the Nimbus 19, however, we prefer the 24s because they are more streamlined with far less padding and we think they’re more comfortable. See our full ASICS Gel Kayano 24 review.
Think of the ASICS Gel Nimbus 19 as the neutral version of the Kayanos. They have solid bounce back and impact absorption. The upper is stretchy, lightweight, and breathable. And the shoes are built for short, medium, and long distance running. Our one knock on the 19s is that the toe box has a really tight fit and the padding is a bit excessive throughout. These feel clunky compared to the 24s. To be clear, they don’t feel like cheap running shoes, but if you’re choosing between the 19s and 24s at a running shoes sale, we’d steer you toward the 24s.
