The Charge 3 is the flagship fitness tracker band from Fitbit. There are many reasons to get the Fitbit Charge 3, but how does it compare to the Apple Watch 4?
Why Get the Charge 3 over the Apple Watch 4?
As we get more into this post, you’ll realize that the Charge 3 is mainly a fitness watch, while the Apple Watch 4 has more all-around smart watch features. Besides that, it comes down to the good ‘ole price tag.
The Fitbit is more affordable than the Apple Watch
The Apple Watch 4 starts at $400 MSRP (for the 40mm GPS version), compared to the Charge 3 which has an MSRP of $150— so less than half the price. The Fitbit is actually one of the most affordable fitness watches out there. It beats every Apple Watch model price-wise, and it also beats the Fitbit Versa and Fitbit Ionic.
The Fitbit Charge 3 is better at Overall Fitness Tracking
Fitness tracking is Fitbit’s “bread and butter.” It’s the purpose of their brand, so naturally, they excel at it. Regarding steps, distances, calories burned, heart rate, etc., they do the best job. They also do a great job when it comes to sleep tracking. The Charge 3 also covers hydration and diet, so they cover all the needed bases when it comes to a weight loss or fitness journey.
One thing the Charge 3 can’t do is track outdoor (or open water) swimming. However, it tracking pool swimming.
The Charge 3 Has Better Battery Life Than The Apple Watch 4
The full battery life of the Charge 3 is almost seven days, compared to the Apple Watch 4 which has a battery life of 30-36 hours, so not even two full days.
On top of that, we all know that Apple loves to equip their products with batteries that slowly lose even more charge over time, so know that it’s just going to get worse the longer you have it. The Charge 3 clearly gets the point regarding battery life.
Final Thoughts: Why You Should Get the Charge 3
Let’s summarize. The Fitbit Charge 3 is going to be the cheaper choice, and it’s also the sportier choice. Not only is the design sleek and widely recognized as a Fitbit, but the watch does a great job of everything fitness tracking related.
The Apple Watch 4 is Apple’s newest and brightest smartwatch (as of this post), and it has a ton of really great new features with the same user-friendly face.
Why Get the Apple Watch 4 Over the Fitbit Charge 3?
The Apple Watch 4 has much more of a premium look and feel than the Fitbit Charge 3. First and foremost, this is a smartwatch that has fitness features. The Apple Watch has dozens more apps and features than the Charge 3 offers.
Apple Watch is the Smarter Smartwatch
The Apple Watch 4 is available in two different models: GPS or GPS and Cellular. The GPS is a little bit more affordable, while the Cellular model gives you access to your text messages, calls, Apple Music, exclusive apps, and gives you the ability to be phone-free.
The Apple Watch 4 has access to a ton more third party apps than the Charge 3, even though Fitbit does have their own App Gallery. Apple has always been the champion when it comes to third party apps, and we believe that this will remain true for a good long while.
While the Fitbit has access to mainstream apps, like Starbucks or the NY Times, it’s still only about 5% of what Apple has to offer.
Besides that, we also think that the Apple Watch 4 has better navigation services, including GPS GLONASS, Galileo, etc.. The Charge 3 only has Connected GPS, which means it pulls the GPS from your smartphone.
The Apple Watch also has distance tracking for outdoor swimming, which Fitbit hasn’t implemented yet. If you’re an outdoor swimmer, this could be a deciding factor for you.
Final Thoughts: Why Go For Apple
The Apple Watch 4 is a great investment if you’re looking for the newest and best smartwatch on the market. All of the fitness tracking features are just apart of the whole package here, whereas with the Fitbit Charge 3, that’s the majority of what it offers. The Apple Watch is much more interactive, it has a really nice display, and it’s a much more luxurious feel.
Ultimately, it depends on what you prefer—less expensive for just the fitness features vs more expensive for the full package. These are both super quality products, so you really can’t go wrong with either.
