Great battery life and seamless integration in the Apple ecosystem but there are better options at a lower price point. We really like the Powerbeats3.
The Beats Powerbeats3 have largely the same look as the Powerbeats2 but do have a little bit of an improvement to fit and some performance upgrades as well. Obviously being a Beats product, the price is a little high although we have seen the price drop as of late.
The fit is very secure – they wrap around your ears and won’t come off your head no matter how much you move around. They don’t completely seal off your ear canal so you do hear a little ambient sound, which some runners actually prefer for safety reasons. Speaking of running, since the headphones protrude from the ear a little bit you will hear some wind noise if you are out there running or cycling. Runners and cyclists should also make sure to use the cable management clip in order to keep the cord from flopping everywhere. For general gym use, the Powerbeats3 are hard to beat…they very well might be the best headphones for getting after it in the gym.
In terms of battery life, the Powerbeats3 kill it — expect to get a full 12 hours of playback on a single charge. They also have a quick charge feature where you will get about an hour of playback from just five minutes of charging – perfect for when you are about to leave but suddenly notice you are almost out of battery. Thanks to the new W1 chip from Apple, the PB3 are awesome when it comes to Bluetooth stability — in our tests, we went about 150 feet before we encountered any disruption.
Finally, let’s talk audio quality, which we think is pretty good on these bad boys. If I had to choose, I would still probably take the sound from the Jaybird X3s but for the most part the PB3 have good bass and you’ll seldom hear distortions.
Overall, there is a lot to like regarding these headphones. The battery life is amazing, they are super comfortable and have pretty good audio quality. If you can get over the price hump, I am pretty sure you will be happy with the Powerbeats3.
