The Jaybird X3s are one of the best pairs of wireless headphones that deliver strong battery life and some impressive audio quality.
The Jaybird X3s are my (Jeff’s) personal favorite workout headphones (although to be fair I use them for work and other things beyond working out). The X3s are sweat and water resistant headphones that secure well in your ear. They come with 3 sets of silicone and Comply foam ear tips as well as 3 sets of ear fins so you can get the best fit for your ear. Even more, the X3s have been reshaped to better lock in your ear canal. That means better sound isolation and a better fit. Huge fans.
The also have an inline remote and microphone and work great with iOS and Android devices. Also, expect a full 8 hours of playback on a single charge. Sadly, they do use a proprietary charger. On the positive side, the cable and headphones overall are rugged and can even be configured to sit across the back of your head. This position is better for running, as it reduces the wind noise and stops the cable from bouncing on your neck. The neat thing about the X3s (like the Bluebuds X and X2s) is that you can wear the earphones in-ear or around your ear, whichever you prefer.
But we haven’t gotten to the best part and that is the sound quality. Not only do the X3s sound great—solid lows, mids, and highs with hardly any distortion—but also they can be customized to your specific sound preferences via the Jaybird My Sound app. Jaybird gives you the control to change basically how the X3s sound for the more bass heavy lovers to folks that like a more neutral sound profile. It’s pretty neat. And the sound preference actually changes the firmware of the headphones so it follows the headphones even if you switch bluetooth devices. Here’s a video about the Jaybird App.
Our verdict on these is that the price is right at $130 and the experience is really good. They have a secure fit and kill it in just about every category.
